1. Who we are

ContractorRoster, a brand of JB Alan LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), operates contractorroster.com. Three kinds of people use it, and these terms are organized for each: homeowners finding and hiring licensed contractors (Part A), contractors and service businesses who appear in our records or receive homeowner leads through us (Part B), and businesses that buy our data as CSV files, through the list builder, or through the Roster Engine API (Part C). The common legal terms at the end apply to everyone.

2. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using ContractorRoster, placing an order, submitting a project, registering your business, or downloading any data we provide, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

A1. What the service is, and what it costs you

Searching, checking a contractor’s license, and submitting a project are free for you. We make money on the other side: when you submit a project, licensed contractors in your area pay us for the chance to be the one who contacts you. You will never be charged for finding a contractor here.

A2. What happens with your project details

When you submit a project, we match it against licensed contractors in your trade and area and notify them. The notification describes the job but does not include your name or contact details. Exactly one contractor — the first to claim your project — receives your contact information, and only that one. We do not sell your details to marketing lists, and we do not blast your project to dozens of companies the way large lead-generation sites do.

A3. What we are not

We connect you with contractors; we are not a party to any agreement you reach with one. License information reflects state records at our most recent update — always verify current license status, insurance, and references before hiring, and get your contract in writing. We do not guarantee any contractor’s workmanship, pricing, or conduct, and we are not responsible for the outcome of your project.

B1. How you ended up in our records

Our records come from official state license boards — public government data — enriched with contact information your business has published itself: your website, public business registries, and public listings. Appearing in a state’s license roster is a matter of public record; we compile what is already public.

You have three options, and we honor all of them: we will correct a record that is wrong, exclude your phone and email from future data deliveries, or exclude your record entirely from the data we sell. Use the request form at contractorroster.com/opt-out or email [email protected] from your business’s email address. We cannot change the underlying public license record itself — that lives with your state board. Our Privacy Policy describes these rights in full.

B2. Registering for leads

Any service business may register to receive homeowner project leads, licensed trade or not. Registration puts you in a review queue — we verify each business before any leads flow, and we may decline or remove a registration at our discretion. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you submit.

B3. Buying a lead

Project leads are exclusive: when you claim and pay for a lead, you are the only business that receives that homeowner’s contact information from us. Exclusivity means we sell that lead once; it does not guarantee the homeowner will answer, hire you, or proceed with the project. If a lead is fraudulent or the contact information is dead on arrival, contact us within 7 days and we will review it — a genuinely bad lead gets credited or refunded.

C1. What we provide

ContractorRoster compiles records of active licensed contractors across 17 trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, general, roofing, solar, landscape, pool, fire protection, carpentry, concrete, masonry, drywall, tile, excavating, painting, flooring) from official state licensing authorities, plus business records in additional categories (dentists, chiropractors, restaurants, retail businesses) available through the list builder and the Roster Engine API. All records across all categories are business records; we do not sell consumer data.

How we source contact data: We compile contact information that businesses make publicly available, including their own published websites, government business registries, and public license records. We may use other public sources, such as online business directories and mapping services, only to locate and verify a business; we do not resell proprietary third-party platform content. Enriched contact information is present for the large majority of records.

We cover a growing list of U.S. states; the current list and counts are shown on our site. Coverage is subject to change as we add or update data sources.

C2. Permitted use

Data purchased from ContractorRoster may be used for lawful business purposes, including but not limited to: sourcing licensed subcontractors, sales prospecting, supplier outreach, recruiting, property management, and market research.

You may not:

• Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the data to third parties as a standalone data product.
• Use the data to send unsolicited bulk communications in violation of applicable anti-spam laws, including the CAN-SPAM Act and TCPA.
• Use the data to harass, stalk, or harm any individual.
• Represent ContractorRoster data as your own proprietary database or claim authorship of the underlying records.
• Use automated means to scrape, harvest, or extract data beyond what is included in your purchase.

C3. Payment and delivery

Contractor CSV orders are priced per trade by the size of the territory you select, starting at $19. Payment is processed securely via Stripe. We do not store your payment card information.

Your file is delivered to the email address you provide shortly after payment is confirmed — usually within minutes, though larger orders take longer to compile and enrich. Very large files arrive as a .zip containing your CSV. If you do not receive your file within one hour, contact us at [email protected] and we will make it right.

C4. The list builder

The list builder (contractorroster.com/build) sells business records by category, state, and contact-quality tier. Four things define what you are buying:

• You pay only for records that exist and are new to you. Before checkout we count the records that match your filters and exclude anything already delivered to your email address in a previous order. The price you see is for exactly that set. If fewer records match than you asked for, the price drops to match — never the reverse.
• The exclusion guarantee is keyed to your email address. To honor it, we keep a one-way fingerprint (a cryptographic hash) of each record’s contact details as delivered to you. Orders placed under a different email address are treated as a different buyer.
• Records are re-checked at delivery. If a record hasn’t been verified in the last 6 months, we re-check it against public sources before your file is built, oldest records first, up to a per-order limit. When a re-check fails or the limit is reached, we ship our most recent data for that record rather than delay your file.
• You can bring a do-not-buy list. Optionally, upload a file of contacts you already have; it is converted to one-way fingerprints in your browser (the file itself is never transmitted to us), matching records are excluded before pricing, and the fingerprints are deleted once your order is delivered. They are never added to our database.
• Files carry provenance markers. Delivered files may include a small number of verification records we insert to identify the file if it is redistributed in violation of Section C2. They are included at no charge and do not count toward your purchased quantity.

C5. Roster Engine API credits

The Roster Engine API meters access by prepaid credits. Credits are charged per record returned, at the rate schedule published in the API documentation, and are debited only for records actually returned to you. Credits never expire. Credit packs are non-refundable once purchased, except where a refund is required by law or the API failed to deliver what you were charged for — in that case contact us and we will restore the credits or refund the difference. Your API key is yours alone; you are responsible for activity under it, and records pulled through the API are licensed under the same permitted-use terms as every other purchase (Section C2).

C6. Refund policy

Because ContractorRoster delivers digital data that is accessible the moment you pay, we do not offer refunds for a change of mind once a file has been delivered. If something is wrong on our end (you didn’t receive your file, it covered the wrong geography or category, or it arrived empty or corrupted), contact us at [email protected] within 7 days and we’ll make it right with a corrected file.

C7. Data accuracy disclaimer

License data is sourced from official state licensing authorities and reflects those authorities’ records at the time of our most recent update. Contact information (phone, email, website) is enriched from publicly available sources and is present for most records, but we cannot guarantee its accuracy or completeness for any individual record.

ContractorRoster is not a real-time verification service. License status and contact information may change after our data is compiled. You are responsible for independently verifying any information before relying on it for hiring, contracting, or compliance decisions.

3. Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement.

4. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ContractorRoster’s total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the specific order giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits or data.

5. Intellectual property

The underlying license records are compiled from public government data. Our selection, arrangement, enrichment, and presentation of that data (including the ContractorRoster platform, brand, and methodology) are our intellectual property. Purchasing data grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use it for permitted purposes as described in Section C2.

6. Changes to terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the date of the most recent revision. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.

7. Governing law

These terms are an agreement between you and JB Alan LLC, doing business as ContractorRoster, and are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to conflict of law principles.
