Illinois Licensed Electrician List
2,637 records in our covered Illinois sources. Snapshot refreshed 2026-07-07. Build a roster for your territory, with phone and email where available. Credential requirements vary by trade and locality; review the state guidance below.
Why verification matters
For panel work or new circuits, agree on the electrical scope and who will obtain permits. Check the applicable electrical credential; a directory entry does not establish that work has been inspected.

Where this list comes from
Our Illinois roster uses covered records from IDFPR + Chicago Department of Buildings. A current source check is still needed. Counts describe records in that snapshot, not every business operating in the state.
A license or registration record is a starting point. Credential types and scope differ by jurisdiction; a listing does not establish today's status or authorization for every type of work.
Before hiring, match the business and credential number with the relevant authority, check scope and current status, and confirm local permits. Contacts and Google ratings, when present, are separate enrichment rather than licensing evidence.

Illinois: credentials and scope
Illinois uses different authorities for different trades. IDFPR administers roofing licenses, while IDPH licenses plumbers and registers plumbing contractors. Chicago also has its own building-department credentials.
Our Illinois source coverage is not a complete description of Illinois law. A Chicago general-contractor record does not establish authority in every other municipality, and plumbing is not exclusively a municipal licensing system.
Example: If a roofing company also offers plumbing, verify the roofing record with IDFPR and the plumbing credentials with IDPH rather than assuming one covers both.
Use the job location and trade to choose the Illinois check
- For roofing, start with IDFPR. For plumbing, check IDPH’s plumber licensing and plumbing-contractor registration. Do not use a Chicago general-contractor entry as a substitute for these state trade records.
- For a Chicago general contractor, the linked code lists A with no project-value cap, B up to $20 million, C up to $10 million, D up to $4 million and E up to $500,000 for regulated activity at one site. It also restricts demolition by class; E excludes demolition and excavation. Confirm the current provision with the city for the proposed work.
- For work outside Chicago, contact that municipality’s building department about the scope. Our selected Chicago records do not establish that another Illinois municipality has the same requirements.
Example: for a Chicago project whose value exceeds the holder’s class limit, ask the city to clarify the required class before accepting the bid. Splitting permits to evade the class limits is prohibited by the municipal provision linked below.

Common questions about electricians in Illinois
How do I research electricians in Illinois?
Start with the authority for the trade and project locality. Match the exact business and credential number, check current status and scope, then ask about local permits, insurance and comparable work. A directory listing or rating does not complete those checks.
How many electricians does the Illinois roster cover?
Our snapshot contains 2,637 records in this category. Records are not necessarily unique companies, and source coverage is not a census of every business in the state.
Where does this data come from?
Covered records come from IDFPR + Chicago Department of Buildings. License and registration types differ; check the credential that applies to your project. Contacts and ratings are separate enrichment where available.
What contact information is included?
Available fields can include phone, email, website and Google ratings. Availability varies by record and selection; an unavailable field is not a zero, closure or negative finding. Review the selected inventory before purchase.
What will my list cost and when will it arrive?

Does this list establish current license status?
